Why Tapven is so cheap (and why everyone else is so expensive)

A digital business card is just a hosted web page. It costs almost nothing to run, so we price it honestly. Here is why legacy vendors charge five to ten times more for the exact same thing.

By The Tapven Team

People ask us the same question all the time. If digital business cards are this useful, why does Tapven cost a few dollars when other brands charge twenty, thirty, even fifty?

The honest answer is simple. A digital business card is just a hosted web page. That page costs us almost nothing to run. So we charge almost nothing for it. The real question is not why Tapven is cheap. It is why everyone else is so expensive.

What you are actually paying for

Strip away the marketing and a digital business card is a small bundle of data. Your name. Your title. A photo. A few links. A button to save the contact. That data lives on a web page. When someone taps your card or scans your code, their phone opens that page. That is the whole product.

Serving a web page is one of the cheapest things on the internet. Modern hosting delivers pages from servers all over the world for fractions of a cent. A single card might get viewed a few hundred times a year. The bandwidth for that rounds to zero.

So the cost of running your card is not the bottleneck. The price you pay has very little to do with the technology. It has everything to do with the business model behind it.

Where the markup comes from

Legacy vendors are not charging you for compute. They are charging you for the machine wrapped around the product. Here is where the money goes.

Sales teams. Many incumbents sell into big companies through reps who work on commission. Those reps need salaries and quotas. That cost gets baked into every card, even the ones bought by a freelancer who never spoke to a human.

Heavy marketing. When a company spends a fortune to acquire each customer, it has to recover that spend. The faster route is a higher price. You end up funding the ad that sold you the product.

Lock-in by design. Some platforms make your card hard to leave. Proprietary formats. Data you cannot easily export. Once you are in, raising the price is low risk because switching is a hassle. That is not a feature. That is a tax on your inertia.

Bundles you did not ask for. Premium tiers pile on analytics dashboards, team seats, and integrations that most people never touch. You pay for the whole buffet even if you only wanted a card.

None of this makes the underlying page any better. A card that costs fifty dollars does not load faster or share more smoothly than one that costs three. You are paying for overhead, not quality.

How we price instead

Tapven runs lean on purpose. We keep the product focused, the hosting efficient, and the sales motion self-serve. You sign up, build your card, and share it. No rep calls you. No quota depends on you. That keeps our costs low, and we pass the savings straight to you.

We price honestly at a few dollars because that is what the thing actually costs to deliver, plus a fair margin to keep building. Free forever on one card. Upgrade only when you genuinely need more. That is it.

We also refuse to lock you in. Your card is a clean web page. Your contacts save your details as a standard vCard that lives in their phone, not in our walled garden. If you ever leave, you walk away with everything. We would rather keep you because the product is good than because escaping is painful.

Cheap is not the same as flimsy

Low price scares some people. They assume corners got cut. So let us be clear about what you get.

Your card loads fast and looks sharp on every phone. No app required for you or the person receiving it. One tap to share. One tap for them to save you. It works on iPhone and Android. It works with a physical NFC card or a plain QR code. It updates instantly when you change jobs or numbers, so the version someone saved last year still points to the right place.

That is a complete, modern product. We did not strip features to hit a price. We stripped the overhead that never helped you in the first place.

The bottom line

Expensive does not mean better. In digital business cards it usually means a bigger sales team, a heavier ad budget, and a contract built to keep you stuck.

We think the better move is obvious. Charge a fair price for a great card, make it easy to leave, and earn your loyalty every renewal. A digital card should cost about as much as the page it really is. With Tapven, it does.
